Advancing the practice of Medicine – Our current focus is on the development of an educational resource for health care professionals seeking to maintain excellent clinical skills and acquire new ones. The goal is to improve patient safety through these educational pursuits and conduct research on skills acquisition and technological development.

There are three (3) core Components:

A Virtual Hospital for recreating high-risk patient care environments including critical care areas in the hospital such as the operating rooms and ICU. Full body patient mannequins that breathe, blink and talk respond to medications are used to faithfully recreate patient care situations, including low frequency, high risk events for which advanced training can be difficult. Audiovisual recording in the virtual hospital allows team-based training and debriefing during and after simulations.

A Procedural Skills Lab for hands-on training with state-of-the-art models; housing 15 small scale operating rooms and endoscopy suites where numerous medical and surgical procedures are taught using state-of-the-art models. Each of these skills stations features the tools necessary to conduct procedures in laparoscopy, endoscopy and open surgery.

A Suite of Operating Rooms for image guided procedure research, robotic surgery and technological development.

The ‘central suite of laboratories‘ is focused on technological development. It includes research operating rooms with sophisticated imaging platforms including MRI and CT and surgical robots.
